CONFERENCE ADVISORY (2
June 2017)
The Resorts World Manila
incident is a case of robbery and arson (Philippine News Agency and Reuters). Due to additional security
measures at the NAIA Manila airport we encourage attendees departing
from Manila for Cebu to arrive at the airport earlier than usual.
We reach out to and
sympathize with those who have been affected by these types of
incidents here and elsewhere. These events have not hampered our
preparations for the SPP 2017 Conference and we are proceeding as scheduled.
Attendees are reminded to be always mindful of their surroundings and to get in
touch with authorities should the need arise.
We have made arrangements
to meet all invited guests from abroad at the Cebu International Airport. SPP
members will have sign boards with their names along with the SPP logo. The
Proceedings and Conference Handbook may be found on our webpage:
We are grateful for your
interest in visiting Cebu City and participating in our Physics Conference. The
SPP is looking forward to working with you. Should there be additional security
notices, the SPP will make announcements at paperview.spp-online.org and
email attendees who have preregistered.
Mabuhay!
CONFERENCE ADVISORY (24 May 2017):
The
Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas (SPP) assures the invited speakers and all the
participants of the upcoming 35th SPP Physics Conference, that
Cebu City and the rest of the country, which are not in the militarized areas
of Marawi City in Mindanao [1], are safe and generally peaceful. The Philippine
Government placed additional security measures in the affected areas with the
declaration of Martial Law in the island region of Mindanao [1,2].
For
reference, it takes approximately 450 km of travel by land
or sea or about 1 hour of air travel to reach Cebu City from
Marawi City. The Conference venue, the Bayfront Hotel Cebu, is located in
a business district in the north reclamation area of Cebu City
[3]. Hence, the SPP Conference and Annual Meeting scheduled
from June 7 to 10, 2017 will proceed as planned.
The
SPP is closely coordinating with the hotel management with regard to their
security measures in place.
